1. Overview
Maotaw Drop is an Android app by Maotaw. Maotaw Drop lets nearby devices share files directly using local nearby connections. The app is designed for device-to-device file sharing without requiring an account and without uploading user-selected files to Maotaw cloud servers.
2. Privacy point of contact
Developer: Maotaw
Privacy contact: [email protected]

3. Information Maotaw Drop may access or store
Maotaw Drop does not require users to create an account. Maotaw does not sell user data.
- Wishlist email on this website: If you join the wishlist, your email address may be stored and used for beta access, testing invitations, launch updates, and Maotaw Drop-related messages.
- Nearby device information: The app may show nearby device names and connection status so users can choose the correct phone before sending or receiving files.
- Device name: A custom device name chosen by the user may be stored locally on the device and shown to nearby users during discovery or connection.
- Files selected by the user: The app only accesses files that the user chooses through the file picker for sending.
- Received files: Files received through the app are saved locally on the receiving device.
- Purchase status: If the user buys MeshDrop/Maotaw Drop Pro, purchase status may be stored locally so paid features can remain unlocked. Purchases are handled by Google Play Billing.
4. Permissions used by the Android app
Maotaw Drop may request Android permissions needed for nearby file sharing. Permission names and behavior can vary by Android version and device manufacturer.
- Location permission: Android may require location permission for nearby discovery using Bluetooth, Wi‑Fi, or Nearby Connections APIs. Maotaw Drop does not use this permission to track the user’s physical location, create a location history, or send location data to Maotaw.
- Bluetooth permissions: Used to scan, advertise, discover, and connect to nearby devices.
- Nearby Wi‑Fi / Nearby devices permissions: Used to find and connect to nearby phones for local file sharing.
- Files, media, photos, videos, audio, or storage permissions: Used so the user can choose files to send, receive files, open received files, or manage files saved by the app.
5. How information is used
Maotaw Drop uses accessed information only to provide app functionality, including nearby discovery, connection approval, file sending, file receiving, transfer progress, local file saving, device naming, beta communication, and Google Play purchase handling.
6. File transfer and cloud usage
Files are sent only when the sender chooses a file and starts a transfer. The receiving device must be connected or must accept the connection before receiving files. User-selected files are intended to move directly between nearby devices and are not uploaded to Maotaw servers by the app.
7. Relay / extended range
Maotaw Drop may include relay or extended range functionality. When enabled and technically possible, nearby devices can help pass encrypted transfer data toward another nearby device. Relay behavior is intended to extend local nearby transfer range and is not a Maotaw cloud upload service.
8. Security
Maotaw Drop is designed to protect transfers using local Android connection APIs and, for supported transfer modes, app-level encryption logic. Users should only accept connection requests and files from people or devices they trust. Maotaw cannot control the content of files sent by other users.
9. Sharing with third parties
Maotaw does not sell user data and does not share user-selected files with advertisers or data brokers.
- Google Play Billing: If the user makes an in-app purchase, Google Play processes the purchase. Maotaw does not receive the user’s full payment card details.
- Android system services: The app uses Android operating system services for permissions, nearby discovery, file picking, file opening, and local storage.
10. Data retention
- Wishlist emails: Stored until they are no longer needed for beta access, launch communication, or until deletion is requested.
- Received files: Stored locally on the receiving device until the user deletes them, clears app data, or uninstalls the app.
- Device name and purchase status: May remain stored locally until the user clears app data or uninstalls the app.
- User-selected files: Files selected for sending remain on the user’s device unless the user deletes them outside the app.
11. Data deletion and user control
Users can choose which files to send, accept or deny nearby connection requests, delete received files from the app or device storage, change the device name shown to nearby users, disable permissions in Android settings, clear app data, or uninstall the app. To request deletion of a wishlist email, contact [email protected].
12. Children’s privacy
Maotaw Drop is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact Maotaw so the issue can be reviewed.
13. Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated when Maotaw Drop changes, when legal requirements change, or when Google Play requirements change. The updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
